CORPORACIÓN MULTI INVERSIONES WAS RECOGNIZED BY DSM FOR ITS GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES IN ITS FOOD PRODUCTION OPERATION.
Guatemala, June 22, 2022. Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI) has been recognized for its good practices in its food operations and innovations to care for the environment and combat climate change. The recognition was awarded by DSM, a global company dedicated to nutritional solutions, committed to economic development with environmental and social responsibility.
Guided by the purpose "We feed your world to fill it with well-being", CMI Foods has dedicated several years of research with the support of strategic partners such as DSM. This has allowed them to implement solutions in animal nutrition that guarantee sustainable animal production.
In this way, CMI has contributed to avoiding CO2 emissions of nearly 80,000 metric tons in three years, which is equivalent to planting 1.3 million trees, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) greenhouse gas equivalency calculations.
"It fills us with joy to be recognized for the results of an effort that began with the dream of preserving our planet for this and future generations. As a responsible and purposeful company, we will continue to promote food security hand in hand with partners such as DSM, to achieve sustainable development with an impact on people, families and communities," said José Gregorio Baquero, CEO of CMI Foods.
Innovative solutions provided by DSM and implemented by CMI have improved animal digestive processes and nutrient utilization to achieve greater feed efficiency in animal feed facilities and poultry farms in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica.
With the optimization of these processes, we contribute significantly to combat climate change, providing animal protein in a sustainable, safe and nutritious way, aligned to the best practices in the food industry with the use of safe ingredients approved by health authorities and international organizations.
"At DSM we want to create brighter lives for everyone. This means meeting current needs without compromising future ones, promoting economic development with environmental and social responsibility. That is why we recognize, through evaluation criteria, customers like CMI, who work to feed the world in a sustainable and responsible way," said Andrés Collazo, Director of DSM North Latam.
In this way, CMI contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with projects that use circular economy, energy efficiency and are carbon neutral; the latter contributes to the goal of curbing climate change according to the Paris agreement, and is in line with the UN Global Compact to promote a zero carbon economy and not exceed 1.5 ° C temperature by global warming.
In the last eight years, CMI Foods has contributed to reduce more than 110 thousand tons of CO2, which is equivalent to removing more than 4 million incandescent bulbs, according to the EPA. It also promotes impactful actions for the care of the environment: it has two certified carbon neutral flour plants in Costa Rica and El Salvador, as well as more than 7,600 solar panels in mills, farms and poultry processing plants throughout the region.
